How is architecture created?

As the modernism ideas that dominated the 20th century reached a dead end, we need to rethink the way that architecture is made from zero-base in order to create new architectural principles that are suitable for today. The third exhibition at the Toyo Ito Museum of Architecture, Imabari will address the most fundamental and elementary question of all: “how is architecture created?”

In the first phase of the exhibition (from July 2013), the National Taiwan University College of Social Sciences, designed by Toyo Ito & Associates, Architects is presented in the entrance hall. In the second phase (from January 2014), archives from “Project Omishima 2014 – Transforming into the most beautiful island in Japan”, which was initiated by the students of Ito Juku will be exhibited in the salon space.

The exhibition will present various aspects including how architecture is created, the architectural thinking, design process, construction method and how it is used in relation to nature, the environment and local community.
